I AM PIERANGELY WEVER

I grew up in Aruba, a tiny island in the Caribbean very close to the coast of Venezuela. I was raised by my mother, the renowned Aruban dancer Diana Antonette, together with my older sister and grandparents. I’ve always been surrounded and inspired by strong and hard-working women that helped shape me into the woman I am today. My grandmother always taught me to work hard and believe in myself in order to achieve my greatest dreams and ambitions.

I’ve obtained my bachelor degree in dance teacher in the Netherlands. I work as a dance teacher at Colegio Arubano, and have been teaching there since 2006. I grew up taking dance classes and always being surrounded by this beautiful art form thanks to my mother. My mother has her own dance school here in Aruba, Scol di Baile Diana Antonette, and is the first person on the island to receive a scholarship for studying the art of dance.

An unexpected journey

Back in 2015 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and it was a very difficult time for me. But through all the hardship I managed to pull through and came out as a stronger person. Being very young at that time, being diagnosed with cancer broke me both mentally and physically, especially since I was living a healthy and active lifestyle. It took me some time to fully get out of that dark period, but the support of my family and close friends helped me a lot.

After surviving cancer, I felt like I was reborn. I felt like I was given a second chance. A second chance to share my passion, knowledge and love that I have for the art of dance. At the end of 2016, I started a heels dance workshop with the intention to empower women. This style of dance, which was first introduced by me on the island, was created to help women feel more confident about themselves not only in the dance studio but every day of their lives. Since then “Killetos by PW” has expanded and invites anyone and everyone to challenge their dance skills on heels, and embrace the beautiful person that you are.

I became my own boss, creating things that I love and enjoying them while also sharing them with all the beautiful people of Aruba, the Caribbean and the rest of the world with the help of social media. My advice for everyone out there: “Life is to short to doubt yourself. Live with passion and do what makes you happy. We only have one life, so LIVE IT!
